Let’s face it – Internet Marketing / search engine marketing is not rocket science. At least to me it’s not. Although a good point is that I have been practicing and following the industry since 1999, so I do have a little experience. In comparison with my college studies in Geology and Environmental Science at Smith College, that was closer to rocket science than search marketing.

Search Marketing – Anything Special To It?
The point I’m getting at is that often people think they can do their own search and internet marketing themselves. They think “Why should I pay all this money to have someone do something I can just do myself for much less?”
I have 3 reasons:
- Time - you need to invest time to learn the stuff, time to implement it, time to test it, time to track it, time to see if the stuff even worked…
- Expertise - There are so many different online marketing channels – SEO (search engine optimization), PPC (Pay-per-click), Blogs & RSS, Adsense, Affiliate programs, the list goes on and on – (for a fairly complete list of effective internet marketing channels click here) – how will you know which one to tackle first? Or how much time & money should you invest in a particular strategy? These days it’s all about creating an integrated, holistic campaign that delivers the best ROI (Return on Investment). Time comes into the picture again – sure you are smart as heck – but do you have the time to sit their and learn all this stuff from scratch while running your OWN business the most effectively?
- Cost - Which leads me to my 3rd reason it might be best for you to outsource your Internet marketing needs – Cost. Ok, so when you hire my internet marketing firm to design and implement your custom web marketing campaign it’s going to represent a significant investment to do so, no matter what your industry. You are going to have to cough up a few bucks to get started and to bring your campaign to fruition.The way I see it is like fixing your car (for the average person that is not mechanically trained or inclined). Sure, you could buy the manual, buy the tools and learn the stuff and then try to follow the directions and maybe do okay or maybe need a mechanic to bail your butt out if you screw up. To me, time is money. So while the learning experience might be exhilerating and fun for you – then by all means go for it!
